The Dixie County School Board is aware of its responsibility for maintaining a cooperative relationship with the community which is served by the School District. The relationship will be supported only if the public understands the objectives, problems and programs of the district. In order to assist this understanding, a communication program is maintained which is intended to emphasize the need for a planned program providing for continuous dissemination of accurate, positive, and basic information in terms the public can understand.
(1) School-Home Communication - the school Superintendent and staff shall make every effort to maintain optimum communications with parents in particular, and with the public in general, about the goals, accomplishments, and needs of the school district. The school Superintendent and staff will adhere to these guidelines in carrying out this policy.
(a) In each school of this district the principal shall encourage teachers to request parent/guardian conferences concerning students who are not working at ability level. These conferences may be scheduled for Parent-Teacher Conference Days or for other mutually convenient times. All communications with parents, should be carefully written and/or phrased in order to maintain desirable public relations.
(b) It is desirable that appropriate communications be published, which present and interpret the district's goal of equal educational opportunity and which provide adequate information concerning the actions taken by the Board in its attempt to solve problems and to maintain a progressive educational program and system.
(2) The Press-School news releases shall originate or be approved by principals or the Superintendent of schools.
