CHAPTER 8.00 - AUXILIARY SERVICES

8.013 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Safety Policy

The School Board of Dixie County realizes its responsibility to keep all students safe  and secure. 


(1) All classroom doors will be locked when occupied by students. 


(2) All classrooms with a window in the door will have an opaque covering  that may be quickly applied in response to an active shooter. 


(3) Each classroom will have an area identified as a “hard corner” or “safe  area”. 


(4) Each school in the district will conduct an active assailant drill in  compliance with state requirements. 


(5) Active shooter drills will be conducted at various times during the school  day. At least twice per year, students will be required to run for a “safe  space.” All students and staff will react to all drills. 


(6) All exterior gates are to be kept closed and locked during the school day  unless staffed by an employee or volunteer.

Gates for parent pick up and  parking areas may be left open if school otherwise has single point of  controlled entry. 


(7) Every employee shall have readily available a communication device that  they may use to report or receive information on observed threats or  active assailants. All employees are authorized to initiate an active  shooter response.


(8) The Dixie County School Board has implemented the Coach Aaron Feis  Guardian Program. 


(9) The district active shooter response procedures will following the ALICE  protocol until changed by the School Board.
