6.60 Staff Development
Policy:
(A) INSTRUCTIONAL
Inservice Training - Each member of the administrative and instructional staff shall avail himself of every possible opportunity to attend and participate in meetings of a professional nature and shall keep abreast of developments in his subject area through attendance at such meetings and by reading professional publications and by attending inservice activities and programs.
(1) General inservice education programs shall be considered as regular school days for all personnel. The participant shall register his attendance during the morning and afternoon sessions. Absence from a required inservice training program shall be considered as absence from duty without leave. Any such absence without leave shall constitute a violation of the contract and such action as seems appropriate shall be taken.
(2) Each principal shall develop and annually conduct an orientation program for new teachers. District administrative and supervisory staff shall be responsible for acquainting new personnel with district-wide services and policies.
(3) All school district employees shall receive inservice training regarding Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). This training will consist of updated and factual information about AIDS. Particular emphasis shall be given to good personal hygiene and appropriate procedures relative to infection control.
(B) EDUCATIONAL STAFF PROFESSIONALS (ESP)
Various types of inservice training programs shall be approved by the School Board to assist ESP employees in the performance of their assigned duties by improving their competencies, knowledge, and skills.
After establishing programs, staff members who are involved in a particular type of work shall attend the training session unless excused from attendance by their immediate administrative supervisor. ESP employees who do not possess a high school diploma shall be encouraged to pursue this goal by enrolling in the adult education program.
